Terms of use

These terms cover your use of flightpathnoise.com. They are short on purpose. By using the site you agree to them. "We" means flightpathnoise.com.

Estimates, not measurements

The noise levels, maps and statistics on this site are modelled estimates. We build them from public aircraft-position data (ADS-B broadcasts) and a simplified noise model. They are not microphone measurements and not certified noise contours. How we measure explains the method and its limits.

Not an official source

Flight Path Noise is an independent project. It is not connected to any airport, airline, regulator or government body.

It is not a substitute for an airport's noise office, a noise and operations monitoring system (NOMS), a Part 150 study, an environmental assessment, or professional acoustic, legal or property advice.

No warranty

We provide the site as it is. We do not promise that it is accurate, complete or up to date, or that it is fit for any particular purpose. Data can be missing, late or wrong.

Your decisions are your own

You decide how to use what you find here. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage that comes from using or relying on the site. That includes decisions about buying, selling or renting property, making complaints, and legal or regulatory submissions. Before you rely on a number, check it with the official source.

Availability

We may change, pause or stop any part of the site at any time, without notice. Live data can drop out.

Acceptable use

Please do not:

  • scrape the site or send automated requests in a way that slows it down for others (every page also comes in a markdown version, and you can email us about bulk data);
  • try to break, overload or get around the site's security;
  • present our figures as official measurements, or as coming from an airport, regulator or government;
  • use the site for anything unlawful.

We may block traffic that harms the service.

Reusing our maps, images and figures

You are welcome to reproduce, embed or quote our heatmaps, images, figures and text, for example in a report, a submission, an article or a presentation. You can link to any page. Our pages cannot be shown inside frames on other sites, but our images can be embedded or copied. When you do:

  • credit "Flight Path Noise (flightpathnoise.com)";
  • describe the numbers as an independent modelled estimate, not an official measurement;
  • keep "map data © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL)" with any map or illustration;
  • keep any lot-boundary or other data credits that the page's footer shows for that illustration;
  • do not edit a figure in a way that changes what it means.

This line covers it:

Source: Flight Path Noise (flightpathnoise.com), an independent modelled estimate from ADS-B flight tracks, not an official measurement. Accessed [date].

Citing this data explains what the numbers mean before you quote them.

Other services

Map tiles come from OpenStreetMap and address search from Google. Their own terms apply to those parts. How we handle your data is in our privacy policy.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, we will update this page and the date at the top. Using the site after a change means you accept the new terms.
